Winning projects represent the best the construction industry has to offer by both general contractors and specialty contractors. In order to do so, their award submittals must demonstrate their ability to meet the following criteria:

  • Exceptional project safety performance

  • Overcoming the challenges of a difficult project

  • Innovation in construction techniques and materials

  • Excellence in project management and scheduling

  • Dedication to client service and customer care

Award recipients are featured in a special construction-focused supplement in Atlanta Business Chronicle each June. This opportunity allow us to promote our award-winning members and the association to the publication’s more than 200,000 readers.

Only project completed in Georgia are eligible for AGC Build Georgia Awards. Member firms have an opportunity to compete in several different categories depending on the size of their firm, the type of project delivery method used, the type of construction, and contract amount of the project.

The 2025 Build Georgia Awards program opened on December 4, 2024. Project applications were due January 23, 2025.

Projects earning first place honors in the 2025 program will be recognized during the AGC Georgia Annual Convention held at the Westin Hilton Head Island Resort June 2-5, 2025.

If you are new to the program, it’s best to review the nomination requirements several weeks weeks prior to the entry deadline and plan who on your team will be responsible for gathering commendation letters from partner firms, progress photos, your project’s subcontractor list (only for GC nominations) completion photos, key facts about challenges on the project, and much more. Please review the information included below to help guide you through the nomination process.
  • All submittals are officially accepted after AGC Georgia staff verifies the sponsoring firm is current with their membership dues.

  • All parent companies of a joint venture must be members in good standing of AGC Georgia.

  • If a general contractor enters a project, a subcontractor on the same project may enter their portion of the work in the specialty contractor division of the awards program.

  • Firms holding a specialty contractor membership in AGC Georgia are not allowed to submit projects in the general contractor division even if they contractually served as the general or prime contractor.

  • Regardless of whether an employee was a direct hire or an employee of a sub-sub, etc., if there was a fatality during the construction of your project, it is not eligible for the Build Georgia Awards Program.

  • The project must be on Georgia soil and have been completed during the calendar year immediately preceeding the nomination deadline date - no exceptions.

  • If submitting more than one project in the competition, you must create one login account on our online portal and add all entries under that username and password.

  • Although entries will be submitted online to AGC Georgia, members are still required to email the following files to Elizabeth Martin at martin@agcga.org on the same day as the entries are due.

  • An electronic file of the photo you've chosen for your Build Georgia Award Plaque (denoted by naming the file "company name-project title-plaque photo")

Note: Should your project earn first place recognition, AGC Georgia releases the electronic file you email us - noted as your plaque photo - to the media. When provided, we include the photo credit you gave to us in the nomination portal.

  • Five images in addition to the plaque photo (prefer mixture of interesting progress and completed photos, rather than all of completed project)

  • Your firm's color logo.

ALL PHOTOS MUST BE A MINIMUM RESOLUTION OF 2000×1600 PIXELS.

The below definitions will help you determine the appropriate categories your project is eligible to compete in for the Build Georgia Awards Program.

Delivery Methods

  • Design-Bid-Build

The traditional competitive “hard bid” process where an owner contracts with a design firm to provide a full set of plans and specifications for a project. Contractors then submit a bid price and the owner awards the project typically based on lowest price.

  • Design/Build

The design team and contractor form into a single entity that is obligated to the owner for their combined services. Design services are provided by in-house designers employed by the construction company or an outside design firm.

  • Construction Management at Risk

The contractor is contractually obligated to provide leadership in the construction process through a series of services provided to the owner, including design review, scheduling, cost control, value engineering, construction coordination, etc. After providing these pre-construction services, the contractor takes on the financial obligation to carry out construction under a specified cost agreement.

Construction Markets

  • Building

Types of projects include office buildings, hospitals, schools, libraries, museums and multi-family housing.

  • Federal & Heavy

Typically projects are completed for the Corps of Engineers, NAVFAC, The Air Force, GSA; any type of marine construction or dredging projects for ports and inland waterways; flood control and prevention projects for the Natural Resource Conservation Service, Bureau of Reclamation and any industrial plant construction.

  • Highway & Transportation

Types of projects include highways, bridges, lane expansions, interchange improvements, new interchanges or alignments, overpasses, pedestrian bridges, road tunnels, transit and railroad projects.

  • Municipal-Utility

Projects are related to water and wastewater, underground utility, site preparation and other types of public works construction such as public facilities, gas, water, sewer or electrical. Construction or rehabilitation is typically underground, but is not all-inclusive and may be open, cut or trenchless. This does not include buildings constructed for municipalities.
